Looking for a Kahoot or Mentimeter alternative?
Here's an honest comparison.
HTruths is a free icebreaker game with no right answers. Everyone votes on a question, guesses how the room voted, then sees who read the room best.
It isn't a replacement for every tool below. Some are better at trivia, slides or conference Q&A. This page shows where each one fits, so you can pick the right one for your group.
At a glance
| Tool | Best for | Free plan | Host account needed? | Guess the room? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HTruths | Opinion icebreakers for teams, parties, classrooms and livestreams | Free, no player limit | No. You get a Host PIN, with no email or password | Yes, that's the whole game |
| Kahoot! | Trivia quizzes with right answers and a speed-based leaderboard | Up to 10 players per game | Yes | No. Players answer quiz questions |
| Mentimeter | Polls, word clouds and Q&A inside a presentation | 50 participants a month, plus one session a month with no limit | Yes | No. Shows the results |
| Slido | Audience Q&A and polls in meetings and events | Up to 100 participants and 3 polls per event | Yes | No. Shows the results |
| Poll Everywhere | Polls and check-ins in lectures and training | Up to 40 responses per poll | Yes | No. Shows the results |
| Jackbox | Comedy party games on a shared screen | None. Each Party Pack is bought (US$29.99 list on most platforms) | One person buys and runs the pack | No. Games are drawing, writing and trivia |
Free-plan limits as published by each company, checked October 2026. Plans change, so confirm on their sites before you choose.
What makes HTruths different
Most polling tools stop at showing results. HTruths adds one more step: before the reveal, everyone predicts what share of the room answered the same way they did. The reveal then shows the real split and who called it closest.
That's what makes it work as an icebreaker. There's no wrong answer to be embarrassed about, quieter people score as well as anyone, and the conversation starts the moment the results come in: "Wait, only 30% of us think that?"
Players join by scanning a QR code or typing a short code. Nobody needs an account, and answers are only ever shown as group totals.
Ready to play in seconds
You don't have to write a quiz or build a deck first. Pick a free question pack and the lobby opens with your QR code straight away. Each pack has six questions you can edit before you start:
For work
Work icebreakers for team meetings and Zoom calls, Would you rather (work) for team building, and This or that as a quick warm-up.

For streamers and creators
Looking for an interactive game for your Twitch, YouTube Live or Kick chat? HTruths turns any question into a round your whole audience can play. Add your host screen to your stream (or use TikTok LIVE Studio), and viewers join on their phones with a short code or QR code. They vote, guess what share of chat agrees with them, and the reveal shows the real split and who read your community best.
Why it works on stream: opinion questions get chat talking in a way trivia doesn't, everyone can score (not just the fastest), and it's free with no player cap. It's also stream-safe: nicknames with slurs, explicit words or links are blocked, you can hide player names on your screen, and your Host PIN stays hidden.
Nothing to prepare: start from the free Creator chat pack, with questions like "Watching videos at 2x speed?" and "Would you rather go viral once or grow slowly forever?", and your join code is on screen in seconds. For more ideas, see 50 questions to ask your stream chat.
How the others compare for streams: Jackbox is the best-known choice for streamers and offers audience play-along, but each pack is paid and most games seat around 8 main players. Kahoot, Mentimeter, Slido and Poll Everywhere can all be screen-shared, but their free plans cap participation (10 players, 50 participants a month, 100 participants, and 40 responses respectively), which a live audience can pass quickly.
HTruths vs each tool
HTruths as a Kahoot alternative
Kahoot is built for quizzes with right answers, and its free plan allows 10 players per game. HTruths has no right answers and no player cap, so it suits mixed groups where a knowledge quiz would put people on the spot.
Pick Kahoot for reviewing class material or running a trivia night.
HTruths as a Mentimeter alternative
Mentimeter is a presentation tool: polls and word clouds sit between your slides. Its free plan covers 50 participants a month. HTruths is a standalone game you can run in a couple of minutes with no deck at all.
Pick Mentimeter when the poll is part of a talk you're giving.
HTruths as a Slido alternative
Slido is strongest at audience Q&A and works inside meeting apps. Its free plan allows 3 polls per event. HTruths gives you as many questions as you like and turns them into a game with points.
Pick Slido for town halls and conference Q&A.
HTruths as a Poll Everywhere alternative
Poll Everywhere is a dependable tool for lectures and training, with up to 40 responses per poll on the free plan. HTruths is lighter and more playful, aimed at getting a group talking rather than checking understanding.
Pick Poll Everywhere for graded or tracked classroom responses.
HTruths as a Jackbox alternative
Jackbox makes great comedy games, but someone has to buy a pack and share their screen, and most games seat around 8 players. HTruths is free, runs in the browser, and any number of people can play.
Pick Jackbox for a games night with friends who want to draw and write jokes.
Try it with your group
Pick a question pack, show the QR code, and start. Or write your own questions, load some from the topic library, or try a solo round first to see how it feels.
